The collection of banknote designs collectively called Funny Money was created by Oldřich Kulhánek with his distinctive humour in 1993. There are a total of seven banknote parody designs for: 500,000 Franc, 1,000 Pound, 100,000 Dollar, 1,000,000 Crown, 10 Schilling, 100 Mark and 1 Ruble banknotes..
The STC has decided, with the kind permission of the artist’s family, to process the Funny Money prints as Commemorative Banknotes and issue them gradually between 2022 and 2024. In 2023, we commemorated 10 years since the passing of this important Czech painter, graphic artist, illustrator and creator of contemporary Czech banknotes.
The obverse design of all banknotes is identical to Oldřich Kulhánek’s artistic concept. In the case of the Commemorative Banknote in the form of a 1,000,000 crown banknote, the main motif, the central portrait, is engraved and printed with steel printing. Another motif is printed in intaglio on the obverse side, namely ‘nominal value of 1,000,000’. A challenge for the graphic studio of STC was the reverse side, which it tried to process using computer technology in the securities software in such a way as to complement the entire concept with dignity. The banknote is printed on security paper with a linden leaf water mark and protective fibres. It is embellished with motifs using a fluorescent colour that is only visible under a UV lamp. The same numbering system as that used on Czech banknotes is used to number the banknotes on their reverse side.
The 1,000,000 crowns Commemorative Banknote will be issued in a limited quantity of four numbered series A, B, C, D of 500 pieces each.
