More about the project:
The series of artistic bank notes collectively known as “Funny Money” was created with distinctive humour by Oldřich Kulhánek in 1993. This parody of banknotes comes in seven total designs: 500.000 Francs, 1.000 Pounds, 100.000 Dollars, 10 Schillings, 100 Marks, 1.000.000 Crowns and 1 Rouble.
With the kind permission of the artist’s family, the State Printing Works of Securities (STC) has decided to incorporate these graphic designs into commemorative banknotes, which will be released between 2022 and 2023 to mark 10 years since the passing of the prominent Czech painter, graphic artist, illustrator and creator of the current series of Czech banknotes. The obverse design of all notes is identical to Kulhánek’s artistic concept. In the case of the 1.000 Pounds Commemorative banknote, the main theme is “Hands”, engraved and printed using the intaglio technique. The reverse side of the note was a challenge for STC. The company has attempted to create it using security software technology so that it complements the whole concept in a dignified manner. The banknote is printed on security paper with a linden leaf water mark and protective fibres. It is embellished with motifs using a fluorescent colour that is only visible under a UV lamp. Identical numerators from Czech banknotes are used to number the notes on the reverse.
The gift cover is made of high-quality graphic paper.
The banknote will be issued as a limited edition in four numbered series, A, B, C and D, with 500 prints in each one.
The STC e-shop will offer 2,000 prints of the first commemorative item in the form of a 1.000 Pounds note in the following numbered series:
A01 000001 – A01 000500
B01 000001 – B01 000500
